Converting Google Docs or Microsoft Word into an HTML file

If you have drafted your own letter on Google Docs or Microsoft Word and would want to use the exact same format, copying and pasting it directly would not entirely carry over everything to Pebble.

The format, style, and layout may be distorted or misaligned because Pebble's Document Editor is HTML-based. So you'll need the HTML code to maintain the integrity and format of your letter from Google Docs.

Here's how:

Google Docs

1. Go to your Google Docs file and click 'File' > Download > and choose Web Page (.html, zipped)

Downloading a web page in Google Docs

2. Open the zip file and click on the Chrome Icon if you're using Chrome as your browser.

3. Once the browser is open, right-click on your mouse and a window will pop up. Look for the option that says "View page Source" and click on it.

Searching for "View page source" through browser.

4. Another window will appear which will show a string of html code in one row. Copy everything.

5. On your Pebble account, select any of the default templates from the template library, open the Document Editor, and click on the HTML icon (< >).

6. The source code window will appear. Highlight everything to select the existing code of the default template and delete it. Then paste that you copied from the browser.

7. If your file has an image you'll have to upload it directly to Pebble.

Microsoft Word

1. Go to your Google Docs file and click 'File' > Save As > and choose Web Page (*.htm,*html)

Saving the file as a web page in Microsoft Word

2. Find the saved file and open it. It will have the Google Chrome icon as you have saved it into a web page. And once the file is open, right-click anywhere on the page and you will see a window that will pop up. Just click 'View page source'.

Open the view page source in Microsoft Word

3. Another tab will open containing the HTML code as shown below. Go ahead and copy all the texts.

Cloud Convert

You may also use an online document converter called Cloud Convert where you can directly get the html code of your Google Docs or Microsoft Word Document.

Here's how to use it:

1. Log in to your Gmail account if you are converting Google Docs. Once logged in, 'Select file' and choose 'From Google Drive' and Select the file.  Choose 'HTML' and hit 'Convert'.

2. You may then download and open the file, copy the HTML code, and paste it to Pebble's Document editor using the same procedure stated in the previous sections of this article.
