Hosting Setup (WP Engine)
In this article we will discuss all the steps needed to get you set up and installed with our preferred, premium hosting provider, WP Engine.
About WP Engine
WP Engine is one of the most secure on hosting providers on the market. They’re the best in the business when it comes to their server’s up-times and offer excellent customer support. What’s more, if you’re not completely happy with their service, they also offer a 60 day money back guarantee on all their packages.
At REI Conversion we’re are proud to use them as our host.
Since they want to focus solely on providing the highest quality of web hosting services, WP Engine does not offer additional services that you get with some other budget providers, like the ability to purchase a domain name.
However, there are several domain registrars where you can purchase a domain name and link it effortlessly to WP Engine. We will discuss how to do this later in this article.
Let's get started!
1. Go to reiconversion.com/hosting
We do have a discount with WP Engine if you sign up through our portal. In addition to this, if you choose to purchase WP Engine hosting, we will install your WordPress theme for you free of charge.
To begin the purchase process, click on Start Here.
You will then be directed to the WP Engine site. Click on Get Started on their page.
You will then be presented with their different pricing options. If you clicked the link through REI Conversion portal, your discount should appear in the boxes as shown in the image below:
2. Choose Your Plan
For the purposes of this demo, we are going to use the ‘Startup’ option, which should suffice for most REI Conversion site owners. However, if you feel like you need to select one of the larger plans, feel free to do so.
Scroll to the bottom of the plan options and click on Get Started under the plan which suits you best.
You will then be presented with multiple up-sells, feel free to check the boxes if you would like any of these additional services. An itemized list of the services you select will appear on the right hand side of the page as you go.
Create Your Account
Now you will need to fill out your personal details and credit card information.
A couple of notes:
Data center – This is where the server for your site will be located. Click the arrow to see the list of available options and click on the location closest to you.
Account name – WP Engine automatically creates an account name for you based on the Company name you type in at the start of the form. If you want to change this, simply type in your preferred username in the box.
Once you’re finished, agree to the terms and conditions and click on Create my site.
You will then be redirected to a page with all the information about your plan, the site URL and your username and password to log into your new site. This information will also be sent to you via email.
You will notice you’ll have two sets of login information. One is to login to WP Engine and the other is to login to your WordPress site.
You will be provided with your username but will need to reset your password to gain access to your new site.
Resetting Your Password
Firstly, click on the link to get access to the WP Engine portal and take note of your username (it’s usually the email you signed up with).
You will be redirected to the WP Engine login page.
Type your email then click Next.
You then will have to retype your email. Then click on Password help to reset your password.
You will be redirected to the following page where you can click the link to have your password reset. After you have put in your email, click Send password reset instructions.
You will be directed to the following page where you can choose a new password. Once you’re done, click on Reset my password.

Viewing your Site on WP Engine
Once logged in you can click on Site in the top of the screen to view your new website’s hosting. As you won’t currently have a domain name, there will be a ‘test domain’ placeholder there, which you can use to access your WordPress Site.
Click on the placeholder to be directed to the Overview page.
You will see a notification asking if you need help migrating your site to WP Engine. As this is a brand new site, you don’t need to do this. Click Dismiss, to get remove the notification.
